Michigan injury, depth chart notes: Will TE Colston Loveland play vs. USC?

Michigan football injury notes ahead of the opener against Colorado State

Tight end Colston Loveland is listed as questionable for the opener against Colorado State. Loveland has been dealing with a knee injury, but he has been practicing in a limited capacity this week.

If Loveland is unable to play, Erick All is expected to start at tight end. All started eight games last season and caught 21 passes for 262 yards and four touchdowns.

Besides Loveland, Michigan is also without a few other key players due to injury. Running back Donovan Edwards (foot), cornerback Gemon Green (groin), and linebacker Junior Colson (concussion) are all out indefinitely.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh said that he is hopeful that all three players will be back at some point this season. However, he did not provide a specific timetable for their return.

Depth chart notes

There are a few notable changes to the depth chart ahead of the opener against Colorado State. Redshirt freshman quarterback Cade McNamara is now listed as the backup to starter Joe Milton. McNamara played well in the spring game and has impressed the coaches with his performance in practice.

At running back, Blake Corum is still listed as the starter, but Hassan Haskins is now listed as the backup. Haskins was a breakout star last season, and he is expected to play a major role in the offense this year.

On the defensive line, Mazi Smith is now listed as the starter at nose tackle. Smith is a highly touted recruit, and he is expected to make an immediate impact for the Wolverines this season.
